Exhibition promotes competition in mining supply sector

The Mongolian National Mining Association launched “Mine Tech 2013” on Wednesday, the sixth annual mining goods suppliers’ exhibition. The event aims to encourage competition in the marketplace and provides an opportunity for mining technology suppliers to promote their goods and explore new opportunities.

Around 70 foreign and domestic companies and mining goods suppliers participated in the event, exhibiting their latest innovations in mining technology. The exhibition was held at the Misheel Expo Centre in Ulaanbaatar.

Mining goods of all types, from a 50,000 MNT uniform to a 5 billion MNT truck, were displayed at the exhibition, along with information about their features and benefits.

The suppliers at the event expressed their concerns about the recent drop in sales of mining goods, saying that decreased direct foreign investment was the cause.

Suppliers noted that they are focusing more on gold mining technologies this year, as gold has managed to maintain its value, unlike coal for which there was a substantial drop in demand last year.

“Prices of trucks and excavators have increased since last year,” said a mining engineer from Uguuj Buyankhangai Company, which operates a gold mine in Bulgan Province’s Buregkhangai soum.

An open meeting is being held alongside the exhibition. The meeting, titled “Association Day,” began on March 27 and will continue until March 29.
