Youth to be recruited as border guards

The process has begun to select youth with military service history to serve as border guards. According to the General Authority for Border Protection (GABP), Mongolian youth are becoming increasingly aware of the opportunities provided by the Contractual Border Guard Military Service and more young people have begun to take an interest in it in recent years.

Journalists interviewed the head of the Military Training, Principles, and Duty Management Division of the GABP, Sub-Colonel Ts.Erdene.

-What are the criteria to select eligible youth as border guards?

-The GABP will select border guards from among those who already had served active duty or those who have served in military service for at least eight months and are aged between 18 and 29. We are also hiring specialized officers such as doctors, engineers and signalers for the Border Guard too. These positions do not require applicants to have graduated from military service or to have served in active duty.

-In what Border Guard Units will the selected youth serve this year?

-In Border Military Units 0306, 0131 and 0166.

-I heard that those who fulfill their border guard service with outstanding honors will become officers or sergeant-majors in the GABP. Is that true?

-The border guards who have completed their border service with excellence, under a contract of two years, are accepted to the Mongolian Border Service Institute as well as into domestic and foreign universities. Last year, 80 contractual border guards were accepted to sergeant-major rank while 20 more went to Russia to study.

-Where should the youth who are interested in border guard service go for further information or registration?

-The registration process has already begun. Those who are in Ulaanbaatar may register at the GABP while those in rural areas may register at the provincial military headquarters before March 18.
