NCR to Provide Kiosks at Airport in Remote Inner Mongolia

NCR Corp. is partnering with a Chinese firm to provide the Ordos Ejin Horo Airport inChina’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regionwith self-check-in kiosks for all the airlines that use the airport.

The Duluth-based company announced its partnership with Beijing Sinonet Technology Co. Ltd. on March 26, adding that NCR’s technology is a major part of Ordos Ejin Horo Airport’s and Sinonet’s effort to accommodate a rapid increase in passengers.

The Chinese government has supported the development of Ordos City, which is located in an area that has ample natural gas and coal resources. Its attempts to attract people to live there, however, have been slow to succeed because of its remoteness.

Nevertheless, more than 10 airlines operate out of the airport including Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Hebei Airlines and Spring Airlines.

Founded in 2007, the airport supports routes connecting to more than 30 cities in northern China. According to an NCR news release, it now has a passenger volume of more than 1 million for the third consecutive year.

The kiosks are to permit passengers arriving at the airport to check flight-information, change seats check itineraries and print boarding passes. Those who already have checked in online but wish to make changes also are to be able to use the kiosks.

The kiosks also are to be able to read mobile barcodes, drivers’ licenses and passports, providing the airport the potential to develop paperless self check-in in the future.

In addition, NCR is to provide maintenance services for the kiosks.
