Mongolian specialists to attend NATO training course

As part of a new project launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense (MD) and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), which is being implemented within a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) collaborative program, Mongolian specialists will be enrolled in training courses at the Institute of Geoecology.

The project, titled “Spatial database of the ecological situation on military purpose lands,” was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MD and MAS on Thursday along with a second new project titled “Issues of improving the computer network of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and ensuring information security”. Both projects are to be implemented within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) “Science for Peace and Security Programme.”

The first project will be jointly implemented by the Institute of Informatics of the MAS and the Slovak Environmental Agency, while the MD and the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces will be responsible for overall management.

Launch organizers noted that the first project will increase knowledge of ecology among the officials of the participating organizations and will contribute to creating capacity for conducting environmental monitoring at military units and on military base lands. The database and information system developed under the first project will support the implementation of effective rehabilitation and improvement works, aiming to make the lands that were used for military purposes usable by civilians.

The second project will involve installing battery equipment that will allow continued operations when power supply fails, and internet security and connection equipment for the MAS database. The Secretary General of the Institute of Informatics, B.Nergui, said that the project will be implemented over two to three years. Research to establish an information technology security laboratory at MAS will also be conducted within the second project.
