Mongolian children's choir excited by ocean view in Hualien

Taipei, March 24 (CNA) Members of a children's choir made up of former street kids from Mongolia expressed excitement and delight after seeing the Pacific Ocean in eastern Taiwan for the first time, one of their teachers said Sunday.

Coming from their landlocked country, the children had never seen the ocean before, the teacher said, adding that they were thrilled for days after a trip to an ocean park in the county, where they watched performances by dolphins and seals.

They are also looking forward to a visit to Cijin Island, just off the coast of Kaohsiung, the following day, she added.

The choir was formed by 20 children who were able to get off the streets thanks in part to donations from Taiwan that have enabled them to find confidence and happiness in singing, said the World Vision Taiwan Christian charity, which sponsored the children's trip to Taiwan.

The group arrived March 19 and have also visited Taichung and Taipei. They are due to depart March 27.
