Microbiology laboratory goes operational

The State Specialized Inspection Agency inaugurated its new Consolidated Central Laboratory on March 1.

The microbiology laboratory, which has modern facilities and equipment, was constructed with a grant-in-aid from the Government of China. The cost of the new laboratory was 18.73 billion MNT.

Friday’s inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Mongolia, Wang XiaoLong, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, D.Terbishdagva. Other key officials also attended the ceremony.

The new laboratory will allow Mongolia to conduct all types of microbiology analysis, which is considered essential for bio-security.

“I’m delighted that the laboratory is opening its doors on the day on which the Mongolian Law on Food Security is coming to force. The role of laboratories in ensuring food security is increasing every day. Now that the laboratory is operational, Mongolia is able to detect and research genetically-altered food,” D.Terbishdagva said in his statement at the ceremony.

The laboratory building was built in accordance with international standards and is equipped with modern sensory equipment and tools produced by laboratory supplies company Thermo Fisher of the United States.
