Dog fair aims to promote purebred Mongol dogs

A fair named “Mongol Dog” is going to be held this Saturday, March 9, at the Central Stadium.

The purpose of this event is to promote and improve the Mongol dog breed, increase their numbers, provide a breed registry for dogs in Mongolia, and make it a world famous breed.

One of the organizers of this event, dog fancier B.Erdenebat, stated, “The Mongol Dog breed is getting extinct. There are very few dogs left. People who used to have dogs in the old days can easily tell that if the dog is a purebred Mongol or not. We are aiming to promote our Mongol Dog breed to our next generation and to increase their numbers. We won’t get a mixed new breed. We are trying to preserve the pure Mongol Dog breed.”

A member of the “Arslan” Dog Club, B.Bat-Erdene, commented on the future places of dog breeding nurseries in Mongolia and stated, “The Mongolian dog has very special characteristics. We are working to register the Mongolian Shepherd or Mongol Dog breed in the world as an independent breed, different from the Tibetan mastiff breed.”

Recently, over 20 dogs from the dog nurseries “Ikh Mongol,” “Asar Basar,” “Khotoch,” “Goviin Khaltar,” and “Dornod Nohoi” as well as “Arslan” Club have been registered to take part in the event. Last year, the event had over 140 dogs from all over Mongolia. Dog lovers are invited to come to the event with their pets.
