Discussions held on elimination of violence against women

The 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women is taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from March 4 to 15, 2013. Representatives from member states, UN entities, and NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from all regions of the world are attending the session. The two-week session includes a high-level round table, interactive dialogues and panels, and parallel events.

The 2013 session focuses on two key areas, namely, the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls, and the equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men including care giving in the context of HIV/AIDS.

The delegates headed by S.Erdene, the Minister for Population Development and Social Welfare, are representing Mongolia in the session.

During the session, Minister S.Erdene made remarks and gave information on the measures that the Mongolian government is taking to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. He also met with Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Michelle Bachelet and they discussed the “Commit” project initiated by UN.

In general, the Government of Innovation and Reform is focusing on combating family violence and human trafficking, particularly the crimes against women and children; and revising relevant laws as well as the laws on family and the protection of children’s rights.
