Canadian house technology to be used to develop soums

A new project titled ‘Joint Center of Soums’ has been established with the aim of improving developing infrastructure in rural areas and slowing the flow of migrants into Ulaanbaatar. The new project will utilize Canadian house technology to build energy-saving buildings in selected soums.

The project involves building kindergartens, schools, dormitories, and hospitals in three soums. All of the buildings will be constructed using Canadian log-house technology at a cost of 35 billion MNT. Processed logs for the buildings will be imported from Canada, while the insulation materials will be made with Mongolian sheep wool.

The three soums participating in the project are Zamiin-Uud Soum of Dornogovi Province, and Buutsagaan Soum and Bayanlig Soum of Bayankhongor Province. Each soum is estimated to have 500 residents.

Mongolian engineers in charge of the project will attend a training course on Canadian house technology in Shanghai. The trained engineers will then work with Canadian professionals to begin construction work in the soums in May.

Mongolian experts say that the Canadian technology was first introduced to Mongolia five years ago and tests have shown positive outcomes. They say that the technology is highly suitable for Mongolia’s climate.

Experts have also said that the technology can also be applied to housing in Ulaanbaatar, as it is energy-saving, as well as being less expensive than alternatives. According to the experts, use of such technology in Ulaanbaatar would contribute to reducing air, soil and water pollution in the city.

A forum was held to discuss the required materials for construction and to exchange ideas on solutions to the potential problems that may arise during the project. Speaker of Parliament Z.Enkhbold has been requested to address issues relating to the importation of required materials during his visit to Canada.
