Ulaanbaatar roads to be cleaned daily

Modern road cleaner trucks will be imported to improve road maintenance in Ulaanbaatar. This will enable the central roads of Ulaanbaatar to be cleaned every day.

The Director of the Ulaanbaatar City Maintenance Authority, D.Enkhsaikhan, gave a short interview to journalists on the subject.

-How many trucks will be imported? What types of trucks are they?

-We have signed a contract to import five road cleaning trucks. Two of them are for washing roads while the other three will spray water on the roads then vacuum up the water. Each costs 250 million MNT. The road cleaning trucks have water tanks of with a capacity of nine tons and waste tanks with a capacity of seven tons. We are planning to use ground water for the cleaning. Each truck consumes 15 liters of diesel fuel for every 100 kilometers travelled.

-When will the road cleaning begin? How will the traffic be managed?

-The trucks will be imported in March. The cleaning will take place every day between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., when traffic levels are very low, beginning from April 1.

-Will all roads be washed and vacuumed with water? Will the trucks have the capacity for this?

-The central roads: Peace Avenue, Ikh Toiruu and Sun Road will be cleaned with the road washing trucks every three days, and will be cleaned using the water vacuum cleaner trucks on the other days.

We have nine road cleaning trucks that aren’t currently operational. We will repair them and make them operational this summer. Then the other roads in the city will be cleaned too.
